The Book

Ikke flugt – bare videre

The book is the natural continuation of the talk. Where the talk lasts approx. 1½ hours incl. break, the book can be taken home, kept on the bedside table and returned to when things get hard again.

The book Ikke flugt. Bare videre. by Michel Riise with several copies alongside
When you can no longer be who you were — and have to move on.

A story about life after the uniform

Ikke flugt. Bare videre. is a personal and socially relevant story rooted in life as a veteran with PTSD — but it is about far more than that.

Michel Riise has served in the Armed Forces and been deployed on international missions. In systems with clear structures, responsibility and purpose, he found meaning and direction. When the uniform was put away, the experiences came home with him, without closure and without a clear place to belong.

The book follows the path from there: through work as escape, relationships that break, collapse, dark humour and the realisation that what has long been there has a name. But beneath the veteran story lies a more universal narrative about losing your direction when the frameworks you built your life on disappear — and about finding a way forward.

Three themes

01

Losing your footing

About the moments when life changes without warning — and about how it feels before you even find the words for it.

02

Finding the words

About talking about the difficult things. Why we stay silent, what silence costs, and how small, honest conversations can carry more than you think.

03

Moving on

About moving on not meaning forgetting. About carrying what happened with you — and still making something new from it.

It is not a book about heroism.
It is not a book with answers.

It is a sober story about holding on, standing your ground and finding new footing when the road is not straight.
